Biography
Sarah Abbott Boerema is an accomplished violinist with extensive performance experience across the United States and Europe. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University, with additional graduate studies at the University of Michigan and the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings.
Dr. Boerema has collaborated with many of today’s leading classical musicians, including Lynn Harrell, Robert McDuffie, Gil Shaham, Stefan Jackiw, and Andrea Bocelli, and performs regularly with the Grand Rapids Symphony.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Boerema maintains a thriving violin studio and is committed to nurturing each student’s individual musical path. Her research centers on 19th-century women composers, and she recently transcribed a violin sonata by Luise Le Beau, which will be published this spring by Hildegard Publishing, along with a new recording.
Dr. Boerema also serves as director of Strings to Schools at St. Cecilia Music Center, a program providing twice-weekly violin classes to students in low-income schools. By removing financial barriers and offering high-quality instruction, Strings to Schools helps young musicians build confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging—strengthening both their personal growth and the broader community.
